Charles B. Gottlieb Partner

Charles Gottlieb is a founding partner of the firm, as well as managing partner. Charles has 30 years of legal experience in cross-border transactions, aviation, transportation, and asset-backed finance, mergers and acquisitions, technology finance, venture capital, private equity, technology counseling and private international law. Charles represents major international financial institutions, private equity funds, corporate clients and entrepreneurs from a range of countries and regions, and works closely with major international law firms as local counsel on cross-border transactions, corporate matters, and a full spectrum of local Israeli law matters.

Charles was born in Pennsylvania, USA and is a member of the Israeli Bar; the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales (inactive). Prior to establishing the firm, Charles was a partner in S. Friedman & Co., where he founded and headed the technology finance group and was the lead partner in the aviation finance practice. Earlier, Charles was a corporate associate at several prominent Israeli law firms and worked in both London and Tel Aviv, focusing on cross-border finance, technology transactions and private international law.

Charles has decades of practical experience in the venture capital industry, gained working in the United States, Europe, and Israel. In this area, Charles represents venture capital funds, private equity funds, strategic corporate investors, and entrepreneurs. Charles collaborates with leading law firms in major technology centers on all stages of technology financing transactions, from seed to exit. Charles’ technology practice focuses primarily on software, robotics, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, security and information technologies, medical devices, and optical networking.

In transportation finance, Charles was ranked Band 1 in Israel by Chambers and Partners as a leading practitioner. Charles’ experience in the transportation sector includes aviation, rail and rolling stock, ship and container financing, as well as technological ventures relating to transportation. In addition, Charles has co-authored the Israeli chapters in the following aviation finance handbooks: “Getting the Deal Through: Aviation Finance and Leasing” (Law Business Research) (2017-2018) and Aircraft Finance: Registration, Security and Enforcement (Sweet and Maxwell) (May 2008).

Charles also has experience structuring investments in projects relating to oil, gas, and mineral exploration rights in Africa and South America.

Charles attended the full summer program on private and public international law at the Hague Academy of International law and taught seminars in international law under Dame Justice Rosalyn Higgins and Sir Daniel Bethlehem, Q.C. at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
